Israeli Dancing | ||||
Israeli dance was great this year. We had a core group of students that came every session (it happened every other Thursday). We also had a terrific teacher who is coming back to teach next year. Her name is Cheryl and her contact info is: Cheryl Soref: 608-263-1231; email: cmsoref@wisc.edu The main aspect of the group to work on is increasing the number of participants overall, however the core group of students you already have are really great. One example of something we did last year, was to co-sponsor an “Israeli Cultural” night with Hamagshimim, so as to attract more diverse people to Israeli dancing. To do this, we decorated the room and bought some “Israeli” type of food (i.e., falafel and baklava). Tami Berger has been the student leader, but she is interested in bringing someone else up to help a little more. She knows a student that will be a freshmen next year (a senior in high school now) who may be interested. Tami has the student’s contact information. Tami’s email is tamaraB613@yahoo.com Tami is interested in trying to do Israeli dance weekly. The consistency may increase the amount of people coming, because everyone will know it is every Thursday (or whatever day you two decide on, maybe another day may be more effective—check with Cheryl first). The order of the evening was usually the following: the first half hour is instructional dance, so people could learn the dances, followed by one hour of open dance. Cheryl is great with accepting requests. The most significant part of this target group to work on for next year is the advertising. Expand the venues through which we advertise. There are numerous dance classes, cultural dance groups and informal dance groups on this campus. Find out if you can advertise through their websites, and/or group functions.
