My Responsibilities | ||||
Each fellow has certain responsibilities as a Hillel staff member and as a member of a national Fellowship. It is important to balance the committments you have in Madison with those that are bestowed by the JCSC Fellowship Coordinators. As a fellow, my responsiblities are the following: to be a contributing member of the Corps through participating in confrence calls with my team; contribute ideas or advice, when appropriate, to members of the JCSC listerserve; and to assist whenever possible throughout Leaders's Assembly, the JCSC Shabbaton and/or the Hillel conference. With the conference there are numerous ways to become involved. Speak with the people at the Center for Jewish Engagement (Rhoda's office). They would love to have you play a role in the planning process. As a staff member of UW Hillel my responsibilities are the following: to advise my appointed student groups and help them to program effective functions; to create a welcoming atmosphere for all students; to initiate student engagement activitites; to help empower students by increasing the level of student intiative; to increase awareness of activities in Hillel, the Jewish community and Israel; to work cohesively with all other members of the staff in order to help Hillel constantly grow and improve; and to work with my supervisor in order to continuosly learn how to effectively accomplish my job. Work with all the staff members and ask questions. Keep a positive attitude and do not be too hard on yourself. You will learn how to accomplish the requirements of your position as you learn how the UW students, Hillel and the Madison community function, both independently and in conjunction with one another.. Most importantly, keep in mind that the JCSC job description is constantly evolving. It changes based on timing in the student's semester, season of the year, Hillel weekly schedule, major community events and student attitude around campus (especially as it pertains to the Jewish community). I have learned a lot this year about staying up-to-date with the ever-evolving system neccessary to effectively run a Jewish student center for more than 4,500 students. Back to main page. |
