Joshua Ashton started at Blue Sky in the fall of 2006 working with special needs students and is currently teaching two elective courses: Beginning Web Design and Web 2.0. In addition to working with students, Josh also serves as the Chair of the school's Board of Directors.
Prior to working at Blue Sky, Josh taught for two years in the Special Needs Kindergarten-1st Grade program at Como Park Elementary in St.Paul, Minnesota. Josh's career in education has also brought him to far-flung places across the globe. He served two years as a primary resource teacher at the Singapore American School and taught for two years as a special education teacher at Lihikai Elementary in Kahului, Maui. His first teaching experience began as a resource teacher at Museum Magnet in St.Paul, Minnesota.
Josh received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, majoring in History with a minor in Social Studies, and his Masters of Education in Special Education (Learning Disabilities) from the University of Minnesota. In addition, he recently earned an additional licensure in K-8 Keyboarding/Computer Applications at Hamline University.
Some of Josh's accomplishments include the Edward C. Blackorby Award in 1996 from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire for excellence in a senior historical thesis paper titled, "The Children of Isreal: The relocation of the Bikini Islanders and nuclear testing". He was a sportswriter for the Singapore Times Magazine and contributed to an article titled,"Pay attention to risk of stimulant drugs for kids" by Shefali Srinivas in The Straits Times April 19, 2006 newspaper.
When Josh is not working, he enjoys travelling with his family and experiencing the great outdoors. Take a look at some of his fishing trips, travel photos and adventures.
