One Night Stand
Excuses rain heavily
in dawn's speckled rays
shining brightly
like dewdrops
on tender grass,
while the abrasive weight
of swiftly departing feet
crushes them alongside
the promises
of the night before.

Left behind
swaddled in blankets
of bitter, unshed tears
a head bowed
in humiliation
rests on pillows
of deflated hope,
once filled with dreams
swimming freely
in innocent eyes,
now drowning
in stagnant pools of cynicism.

Ears recently deafened
by crass, callous words
still echo
with bashful laughter
and breathless whispers,
a body before so pliant
in arms of imagined love
left behind
in the cold embrace
of the decaying corpse
of spent lust.
