This illustration is but a symbol. It is not a photograph of any of my ancestors. -M.L. |
Alors je me suis tourné vers ma mère. |

Daniel LeBlanc, my ancestor from France, was born in the anciant province of Dauphinée, France, in 1626. In 1645, he married Françoise Gaudet in Port Royal, Nova Scotia. |
Daniel was the first LeBlanc to set foot on North American soil. We are his descendants. |
In 1632, François Gautreau, my ancestor on my mother's side, arrived in La Hève, Nova Scotia, with his two brothers. It is thought that he was from the French province of Poitou. |
Most of my ancestors escaped the Deportation, though a few were deported to Massachusetts and Louisiana. The majority settled in the Memramcook Valley, in the south west part of New Brunswick, near the city of Moncton. |
.We are all related. Everyone, on the average, must have 4 first cousins, (the children of his uncles and aunts), 16 second cousins(the grand-children of his great-uncles and great-aunts, probably 64 third cousins, about 250 fourth cousins, roughly 1,000 fifth cousins, and some 1 million relatives as close as tenth cousins. The range of 50th cousins will easily cover the planet. ..The average person has approximately one million ancestors with some thousand names just in the past 500 years.* |

Paul, Jean and Pierre ( dit Petit Pierre) Gautreau were thesons of Paul Gautreau, who lived in Menoudi, N.S. Pierre, our direct ancestor, whose son was the father of Grandfather Onézime, was the first in the family to settle in the Memramcook Valley, at a location now called " Village des Gautreau". |
Most of the land in the valley was owned by a Débarre, a French huguenot who was a ruthless and crooked landowner. The Acadians were ogbliged to pay hom a land rent. They protested and took him to court. The case lasted 55 years. Dicsouraged fater spending large sums of money to dishonest lawyers, most of the Acadians left the valley to settle in areas now known as Shediac, Cocagne, Richiboutou, and other places in the Shediac area., but Pierre remained. He later invites his brothers, Paul and Jean, to join him. They became the founders of Gautreau Village. The year was 1804. |
