The Mask

I place a mask upon my face,

To hide my inner soul.

Why I do this ye have yet to know,

For the answer lives within.

Why am I such a mystery?

Ask you from afar.

Is it just her nature?

Or something more?

A mask in the social sphere;

A different mask for others.

A mask removed only....

To those I trust.

Why do I hide the inner me?

For fear of further torment

You see a mask is good for this....

Yet, shields off the true inner beauty.

Comment: I started this poem in high school and just recently finished it.
