Oh dang. Last episode started with a bunch of robed guys with curvey knives chasing a young woman through the streets of Istanbul. They caught her and stuck a curvey knife into her. This episode starts much the same way only with a more techno sound track and, when they stab her, she doesn't die but rather says her cryptic line and Buffy, aka prophesy girl, wakes up.
Dawn is there trying to convince Buffy that it was just a dream but Buffy ain't buying. She knows that Joss is going to off a girl each show start just to annoy her. Cut to the CGI effect of the week where something burrows just beneath the surface, causing ground and street to buckle.
Next morning Dad (well, Xander) and Mom (well, Buffy) drive Dawn to school. They're discussing the fact that Xander is having a hard time getting into the dating scene and all three make a general resolution not to date demons. At the school Buffy is shown her little cubicle and chit chats the principal before heading to the basement looking for Spike. Who she doesn't find.
That night the victim of the week is walking her dog when the CGI eats the dog. VotW (okay, Nancy) runs screaming right into Xander who takes her to Buffy's house. They assure her that she's not insane and that they can help. Spike appears offering to help. He's dressed in his usual hair and long sleeved blue t-shirt looking very Season Six. No one seems to trust him, especially when they find out that Buffy saw him last episode and didn't tell them. However, never one to look a gift demon in the mouth Buffy says he can help.
Buffy and Spike patrol and talk and do not bond. Xander and Nancy go to her place where Nancy hits on Xander before the worm shows up. Xander discovers that Nancy has a controlling ex that won't let go and that, well, have you ever just wished...?
Buffy, Spike, Nancy and Xander go to the Bronze where Nancy pegs Anya and Anya admits to embellishing the wish (I wish he was a worm) a bit (I wish he was a 20 foot long Sluggoth Demon). Nancy gets the run down on the relationships of the four and runs screaming into the night. Actually, she leaves in disgust when Spike punches Anya to stop her from blabbing about his soul and Buffy punches Spike because she can. When they realize that Nancy is gone Spike and Buffy pursue while Xander remains to talk to Anya.
Sluggoth Demon finds Nancy. Buffy finds Nancy. Spike finds Buffy and Nancy. Sluggoth Demon rears up and Spike smashes it with a wrecking bar. Spike then stabs at the Sluggoth Demon just as the spell reverses and he punches a neat square hole right through the shoulder of Nancy's ex. Buffy calls 911.
Spike now loses it again. The general idea of the rant is that whatever is happening, whatever is the Big Bad for the season, is inside his head. Actually, the inside of his head is getting fairly crowded and they're really noisy tenants. Spike runs off, Anya and Xander arrive, Buffy gives Xander the cell phone and chases after Spike, finding him in a church.
Spike's ranting continues but Buffy is getting better at actually hearing what he has to say. So she finds out that he went to find the spark, the piece that was missing from him that would make her able to love him and make him the type of man that would never hurt her. And, now that he has the spark, it burns.
Meanwhile, in Westbury, England, Willow starts the journey home.
2) Yet again with what you just happen to find in the alleys of Sunnydale. Four foot long steel wrecking bars with chisel tips.
3) They're hinting all over the place that something is coming. Something so bad that it makes all before it pale in comparison.
4) There's no respect for blades. You clean it before you put it away otherwise it rusts.
5) I'd just like to, as a mom, say how much I appreciated seeing Buffy and Xander wear their seatbelts in the car. And how ticked I was to see Josh and Toby not wear theirs. In a jeep. Idiots. Combined IQ in the three hundreds and they don't know that SEAT BELTS SAVE LIVES! End of rant.
6) From beneath you, it devours? Not the worm. No way.
7) Beside, Anya said it was going to get worse.
Buffy, Spike and the dead Frankfurt Girl: "From beneath you. It devours."
Spike: "And when did your sister get so scary?"
Principal Woods: "There's only three things these kids under stand. Boot, bat and batista. Bat... Bad joke. I don't even know what that it."
Buffy: "It's a club used in Turkish prisons to beat the sole's of prisoner's feet. But made from the right wood it makes a good billy club."
Principal Woods: "Oh, you'll fit right in."
