Episode 141, #19 of Season 7

Summary

It is for her alone to wield.

Oooh, kay. Previously on Buffy we recap the season and remind us all that the Good Guys got their asses kicked.

Buffy continues to be depressed. She mopes downtown were everyone, including Clem, are fleeing. She mopes on over to the hospital where she can't look Xander in the eye before fleeing. She mopes at home over the files that Willow stole from the Sunnydale PD using Jedi Mind Tricks. She mopes on over to the school to clean out her desk some more and mope over the picture of her and Will and Xander when they were young(er) and innocent(er). She mopes as Caleb suddenly appears and taunts her. She perks up a bit when she punches him but then relapses into unconsiousness moping when he puts her into another wall.

Faith, on the other hand, refuses to mope or allow the Teen Slayers to spiral from moping to suicide. She takes them out to the Bronze where she dances with all the guys, Dawn dances with Kennedy and the rest shoot pool and sneak drinks. Cops arrive, and three drag Faith off on outstanding warrants while the fourth prevents the Teen Slayers and Dawn from leaving. The cops, under Hellmouth influence, are about to kill Faith when the Teen Slayers realize what happen and take down their cop and then rescue Faith. Buffy, the moper, arrives in time to totally misunderstand everything. She sends the girls home so she can yell at Faith who, by and large takes it except for a little dig about what happened in the vineyard. Buffy punches Faith in the jaw. Faith, again, takes it.

Spike and Andrew follow the only lead, a misson where everyone disappeared and there is a small knothole made by Caleb's ring. The boys have chat, find the lone survivor who shows them an inscription that made Caleb very angry. "It is not for thee," Spike reads, "it is for her alone to wield."

Back at the house Xander arrives home to a subdued party and Buffy's newest plan. Attack the vineyard again. People are less than ethusiastic and a palace revolt develops. Quickly it becomes apparent that no one is keen on the plan without proof and the more Buffy tries to convince them that they all have to be together in this, the stronger the mutiny becomes. Willow says she's worried about Buffy's judgement and Xander says that maybe there's been enough sacrifices. Finally Dawn tells Buffy that she's right, they have to be together in this. So Buffy has to leave.

Shocked, Buffy leaves. Faith chases after her to assure her that this wasn't her idea, that she doesn't want to lead. Buffy tells her that they're her lives now to protect. Faith nods, goes back into the house, and Buffy heads down the walk and we...

Fade to black.

RANDOM THOUGHTS

The curly fries versus onion blossom was particularily amusing. As was Andrew in Dawn's football helmet.

Haven't seen this much bickering since the Yoko Factor.

RANDOM QUOTES

Clem: "You can't swing a cat without hitting some kind of demonic activity. Not that I'd swing a cat. Or eat. Nope, cutting wayyyyy back. Cholesteral. Morals! I mean, morals."

Kennedy: "Got some to share?"
Faith: "Trade you for a carton of cigarettes and soap. [pause] Sorry. Habit." [hands over chip bag.]

Spike: "If you tell anyone we had this conversation, I'll bite you."
