MAVERICK  DODGEBALL
Maverick Dodgeball's history is a long and interesting one. Like to hear it, here it goes.

When Will Monestero, Founder and Current President, came to the University of Nebraska - Omaha, he wanted the full college experience without the hazing.* He wanted to enjoy his time at UNO and have a lot of fun, for being a 28 year old freshman. He wanted to party with college kids 10 years his junior, and well, you know, become a ladies man. It was in the fall when Will saw a friend of his, Greg Richardson, who was creating the UNO Volleyball club, so he could play co-ed volleyball with other schools around the country. Will thought that would be a great idea to create a sport club, but had no idea on what sport to bring to the campus.
Then it hit him like a ton of bricks - at the bar he was taking a shot of Goldschlager, he saw on one of the TV's the movie "Dodgeball".
The next day, he emailed Lisa Adams and asked her how to set up a club. He recieved an email the next day saying that he emailed the wrong Lisa Adams. He then emailed the correct Lisa Adams, the director of sport clubs, and assistant director for HPER, and the ball was rolling. Their first meeting was in October, along with GA Erin Scheckells, they got Dodgeball the flame it needed. Then one night in November, after emailing Aleks Bomis, the president of Michigan State's Dodgeball club, they welcomed him and Maverick Dodgeball with open arms to the MIDWEST DODGEBALL CONFERENCE (now the NATIONAL COLLEGIATE DODGEBALL ASSOCIATION). They helped him with the rules and showed him their way was the right way.
The club constitution and rules were written in 5 hours, on a sunday night, before Will had a huge Astronomy Test.
In December the first Information meetings were held and Will recieved a good response to the club, but with the help of his girlfriend and some members of his Speech class, he began to add to the ranks.
At the first practice, with the help of his girlfriend, Jenny Brannon, she corraled people into the gym making this club the largest group on campus (Spring Membership - 29 paid members) and continues to be successful in its second year.
The 2006 - 2007 school year for UNO Dodgeball shows promise with the scheduling of matches with Nebraska, Kansas State, and Kansas, and as they prepare for the NCDA National Championship in Chicago, the UNO Dodgeball team has one thing in mind -
WIN IT ALL
Never forget their motto
"IF YOU CAN DODGE CLASS, YOU CAN DODGE A BALL"
