The Course Consists of Theory Classes and Practical Lessons

 Course Objectives

 This course explores how the landscape of online business is changing and evolving. With balanced coverage of both the technological, economic and the strategic aspects of successful e-business, students are able to tackle the real-world business cases included in each chapter. Reflecting changes in the economy and how businesses are responding, this course emphasizes revenue and transaction cost reduction models as an alternative to the older ideas of business models. The text includes the latest technological developments, including increased coverage of wireless technology (m-business), so students are aware of all the latest developments

Assessable learning outcomes:
By the end of the module, it is expected that students will be able to:

ü      Identify the importance of e-business and its impact on traditional organizations

ü      recognize issues related to e-business development

ü      develop an e-business strategy

ü      research and evaluate an wide range of existing e-business operations (both web sites and business activities)

ü      Design and produce a basic e-business web site and specify the off-line activities that would support it.

The Delivery method will be:

 

Practical: the current state of e-business, i.e. knowledge of a range of existing e-business operations, the outline characteristics of underlying technologies, the software packages and techniques required to produce a basic web site, the ability to design an e-business strategy, the practical and technical ability to design and create a basic e-business site by using off-the-shelf package (e.g. Front-page,), awareness of good practice in the design, implementation and operation of an e-business venture.

 

Theoretical: business models and value chain of e-commerce, security issues from a technical and business perspective, emerging standards in all aspects of e-business, legislative procedures that apply to e-business, the social and economic implications of e-business, reflection on future developments of e-business.

 

Grading and Evaluation Criteria

 

50% of the grade is based on coursework and 50% on a final examination. Coursework consist of labs, assignments and two class tests. An in-class review will be held prior to each examination.

 

20% of the coursework grade is based on tests and quizzes. Quizzes are announced one day in advance and may vary from 3 to 5 questions that may be in any format.

 

30% of the grade is based on keeping a project notebook. Students are asked to obtain a small notebook or to use a lab notebook and keep notes on the results of the various projects they will be given to do.
