Mail 39: The banker, however, springs a nasty surprise on the lads...

Subject: Attn. Dr. Musu Aga / re our client Dr Max Wieldruk

From Cas te Kort (banker) to Musu Aga (IBA bank)

Dear Dr Musu Aga,

My client, Dr. Max Wieldruk, forwarded some of your e-mails to me and requested me to send you 300 USD by the Western Union System. Although I would willingly oblige to serve my client Dr. Max Wieldruk in this matter, there is a slight problem which needs an explanation.

Rottumerplaat is an autonomous autarkic socialist republic. Although we do have a banking system, our way of banking is based on the socialist system as expounded by our glorious leader Toon Ladder, who was victorious in the 1962 revolution.

As ordained by our leader, our political system and our banking system are completely averse to the methods used by some capitalist banks in other countries, especially in the USA.

I don't know much about the Western Union System, but mainly that this American company is based on the capitalist ways which only serve to suppress the proletariat. There is no place for such banks in our country. In short, there is no Western Union office in the Republieck Rottumerplaat and we are proud of this. The nearest Western Union office, I have been told, is in our neighbouring country Denmark. Paying by the Western Union would take a day's travel, and we would have to apply for a travel permit in the first place.Inhabitants of our country can not, as a rule, travel at will to capitalist countries, of which Denmark is one.

Of course there would be no problem transferring the amount to any account number at your side, by telephonic or telegraphic transfer, or to pay this by cheque. Please let me know which method of payment you prefer.

Yours sincerely,

=====

I feel really sorry for the Western Union being forced to play this role in this adventure. They may be American, but I don't really think they indulge in suppressing anyone... Max
