This page is to honour the Traditional Owners of Australia, my homeland. From a child I have had the great privilege and opportunity to share in the lives of some indigenous people throughout parts of Australia. A great influence in my childhood,, was an old lady from the Maya people, who used to tell me stories of her people, and who gave me an insight into living my Spirituality, that is so close to my heart today. She treated me with love, respect and kindness, and welcomed me to sit with her and the group of children she cared for each day. We were all treated the same, even though I was not part of their tribal group. I sometimes wonder about that period of my life, and why she just welcomed this white looking kid into the circle - no questions asked, and treated me with such affection. I felt safe and protected with her. It is my intention to place only links here that are accurate and respectful of indigenous Australians. If there are any that offend in any way, please email me and I will remove them immediately. Thanks. One further note - I ask that you respect the copyright laws on each site you visit from my links, and do not remove pictures, or articles etc. that may feature there without permission to do so from the designers of the site. I believe it is important that cultural theft does not occur, and would hate to think that I have a part in that, by providing the links to do so. There are plenty of places on the Net where you can purchase Artworks by Indigenous Australian artists, hence giving them the credit and income they deserve. In saying this, there is also a lot of "bastardisation" out there on the web which exploits authentic aboriginal art and images. Be sure that what you are buying, is authentic, and respectful, and that the $$$ are indeed going to the community that designed them. Find out about the item you're purchasing, and what sacred tribal laws may govern it - for example in many Aboriginal tribal groups a didgeridoo should never be played by a woman, because it is considered a man's instrument. |

I emailed Aussie Betty to see where the background she designed originated from. She graciously replied, and advised me that it was taken from a painting, but she does not know from which tribe the painting originates. . I would also like to thank the tribe and artist responsible for the painting, for the use of their design on this page. |
