JEWISH WOMEN WORLDWIDE Bet Debora A wonderful Jewish feminist organization in Germany. They produce a journal (available in English) that's simply amazing. Ester: organizacia zidovskych zien The home page of the Jewish women's organization of Slovakia. (Yeah, they got one!) MUSIC-YIDDISHE, POLITICAL, AND OTHERWISE Black 47 The website of a truly great Irish-American rock band. Country Yossi and the Shteeble Hoppers The official website of a remarkably funny Jewish filk band with a country western focus. You can play a selection of their songs on the website, hits like "The Nebich of the Shteeble" and "Big Bad Moish". A couple touches of language I don't care for ("The Cholent Song" advocates cholent-bombing as a solution to the Middle East crisis), so you've been warned, but most of it is hilarious. Hip Hop Hoodios Latino Jewish hip-hop in Spanish, English, Ladino and Yiddish. Out of L.A., and very funny, on fire, and wonderful to hear. Spaccanapoli It's hard to explain just what this group is...'socialist tarantella' might come close. They're from Naples, and they do traditional style music with political themes. It's eerie and wonderful. Voice of the Turtle Simply some of the most beautiful Jewish music you will ever hear. Voice of the Turtle does traditional Sephardi music from all over. It's gorgeous and addictive. FILM AND THEATER Sunday A docu-drama about the events of Bloody Sunday, January 30, 1972. This is wrenching but excellent. |
