In 1999 after first taking the group to Florida and performing for the crowds at Disney World, we continued on to Dayton once again for the World Championships, this time narrowly missing Finals by one tenth of a point. Mayflower competed again in 2001 at the MIlkwaukeeWGI Championships. Due to a difference in the age rule, Mayflower were unable to compete in Open Class, and were moved up to World Class. Although narrowly missing out on World Class finals they gave an awesome performance and were greatly appreciated by the US audience. It is the intention of Mayflower to compete in Dayton 2003 in World Class with a show that has already been choosen and designed specifically for this entry, |

Winterguard was first introduced to the UK from the States in 1981, it soon became a very popular activity with the Drum Corps Colourguards. Mayflower were very supportive of this new activity and fielded a winterguard in the very early years. Due to the high level of competing taking place from the Corps side of the activity, and the high cost of putting out a winterguard, Mayflower tended to compete every other year. |
In 1996 when the Senior Corps stopped competing it was decided that as most of the corps Colourguard had stayed intact we would put out a winterguard every year. |

Mayflower had always had a reputation for being one of the best guards in the Country, and in recent years whilst competing only every other year, we took British Championship in 1992 and came third in 1994, In 1996 we were very fortunate in obtaining the services of Rob Da Costa, a well known colourguard judge and director, since then Mayflower Guard has become the most innovative and successful guard in this country. Whilst using top US designers and equipment technicians, we still maintain the input of the best UK instructors. In 1998 Mayflower decided to compete at World Class leve, taking the guard across to the WGI Championships in Dayton Ohio. This was the first time that a British guard had enter the Open Class championships, and with an excellent show reached the finals of these championships. |
Behind the success...........the story so far. |
