What's New - Nov 2004

Nov 29, 2004 - It's always so hard to get back to the swing of things after a 4 day weekend!  I'm struggling to get back ont rack.

Thanksgiving was great - Lisa, Bert, & Raye joined us for some feasting!  We went to see National Treasure
afterwards!  I really liked the movie!  I think I'll buy that one once it comes out on DVD.

Sunday was spent at Burke Williams Spa in the morning with Sao & Tosh, followed by afternoon tea at the Ritz
Carlton with Kaz (and mari-chan) and Raye.  It was really nice - we spent about 3 1/2 hours there!  it was great to catch up with friends!

I've been on this massive shopping spree (lose a bit of weight and you just go nuts!).  I need to go on a money diet now.  Any suggestions?  Maybe I should give my wallet, credit cards, ATM Cards, etc to Miles & Aya to keep for me.  They're close enough for me to run down & grab it from if I really run into a cruch. Otherwise, I'm just spending to spend.  then again, it's my reward for losing weight! (or rather, inches in my case)...

Wow - last week was a blur!  Nothing too exciting.  Lost a bit more weight.  I think overall since
starting the South Beach portion a month ago, I've only lost about 8 pounds...but it was a good solid 8. I've gone down a couple of sizes, so that's exciting for me.

I went to the horse races for the first time.  It's way too confusing.  Erin just kept betting on any horse that Cory Nakatani rode.  She won a lot betting on him!  i can see how easily addicting that can be.

I saw the Japanese version of The Grudge.  It was a bit different from the American version - it was a lot
more confusing!!  I think that the main character "rika" was possessed by the obake.  But i'm not really
sure because I was so dang confused!!  Ah well...

Tonight I'm off to see the Clipper Game with the Shimo family.  I hear that we're sitting right next to Penny
Marshall.  I don't care what anyone says about the Clippers - I still love them!!

Nov 8, 2004 -
So, Bush is back in office.  I was pretty surprised to see that the race, while being pretty close, really wasn't.  I guess living in California gives me an altered perspective on things.  I hear a lot of people are getting pretty hostile & upset - you hear about someone killing himself on the site of 911, people moving out of the country, kids staging sit ins with no goals or calls to action, etc.  This country may not be perfect but it's the best place to live anywhere - i'm sure there are many immigrants who would agree.

Anyhow, let's talk about me.  It was the first week of my newest diet.  During the week was easy - mostly because I was prepared.  The weekend...well, let's just say it was a free for all.

I went up to visit my friend, Kristi in Nor Cal.  Since it had been a LONG time since I'd gone to Wine Country, I thought it'd be a great idea to go!  We visited a few wineries in Sonoma - but didn't get to any in Napa.  It was a total culinary weekened.

First, we went to a great breakfast place I hadn't gone to in years- the Omelette Express in Santa Rosa.  The omelettes were great!  We were too stuffed from breakfast so we actually didn't eat again until dinner - Della Santini's in Sonoma (downtown).  Great Italian food.  I got that tip from Rachel Ray's $40 a day.

That evening, like the wild women we are, we hung out watching movies - Raising Helen & Princess Diaries 2.
Cute on both of the movies.

The following day as we were checking out, i asked the front desk lady where a good place for breakfast was -
before i could even finish the sentence, she was writing down directions on how to get to Gillwoods Cafe on Clay Street, just east of Jefferson.  Oh lord...that was some GOOOOOOOOD breakfast.  I highly, highly recommend that joint! :)

We finished off our weekend at the Napa Valley outlets.  wooo hooo!  i scored with another $85 suit from Ann Taylor (size 4!!!!!  i'm going down every other week!!)  I also got this great sweater from MaxStudio that got marked down to $28 from $128.  I got an additional 20% off because I got the discount book!  Beautiful sweater for less than $25!!  go me!

I turned down an offer of a free airline ticket to fly anywhere in the contiguous 48 states if I gave up my seat.  It was tempting but I would rather have a system wide upgrade instead.  no luck.  :(

Nov 1, 2004 -
Cough...cough...i was feeling a bit under the weather on Friday & Saturday.  But...taDAH....Airborne to the rescue.  That stuff is GREAT!!!  I feel like a million bucks!!

On Saturday morning, I had an appointment with a trainer, Michael Thurmond.  Now, he's not going to be my trainer, but I had my 1st consultation with him.  My boss is allowing me to take off part of the day to go work out (since he knows i'm here from 6:00AM - 7:00pm ++).  It was a rather freaking appointment.

I walk in and he starts yammering off at me about my poor food choices (as in, not enough).  That wasn't what was so freaky.  He starts in on me about why I'm not in a relationship right now (how the heck did he know?? is it because I'm THAT ugly?  shut up, miles) and how I'm just warning people off by the vibe i put off.  DOH!

So that's the psychological aspect of the consultation - not sure if that's normal, but he basically told me that I need to work out whatever mental issues (stress, unhappiness, whatever) for this to really work.  So onto the physical.  He asked me if I had any pains in my neck.  I told him that I did.  He went on to tell me which side of my neck the pain was on but the droop in my shoulder.  Apparently, when I had played golf all those years ago, I did something to my
rotator.

so before I can start the work out process, I have to get that taken care of and get some bloodwork taken care of (he's worried that my constant exhaustion may be from anemia or thyroid problems or insufficient food intake) and a write off that I can work out with my shoulder problem.  Michael wants me to be able to use my shoulder w/out having to result to surgery.  Seeing as how I almost have full range mobility in my shoulder, i don't see it as being a problem.

Anyhow...it was just cool because I've been to chiropracters about my neck before and it's the first time a cause has actually been targeted.  That alone is worth it.  So now I'm off South Beach (i lost about 4 or 5 pounds on it) and I'm on this eat every couple of hours, put some carbs back in thing.  I've got so much energy right now, it's amazing.  I love it.

Training starts next week.  Looking forward to it!!   Updated my
pictures and stuff about me.
