Class notes for Nov. 21, 2002
Guest Speaker:  Delores Mandell talked about her job as a social worker, where she is part of a research study of  men who are alcoholic and mandated to treatment due to an incident of domestic violence. She spoke of what her daily job consists of and of how she came to be doing the kind of work she is now involved in. She addressed the rewards and frustrations working with this population. Then I asked her to address, in the interview format, the two questions that make up the take home test:
      1) The questions on your experiences of social class (#1-4, pages 183,184).
      2) Describe the worst ethical conflict you can imagine yourself in and what steps you would take to deal with the
          situation.
Ms. Mandell modeled how I wanted these questions addressed in her forthright and personal responses.
We discussed the issues of ethics and the conflicts human service workers can find themselves in.

The the groups met for their final preparations. Groups 1 and 2 will present to the class on Dec.5th and 3 and 4 will present on Dec. 12th. The group presentations will be videotaped for my future reference (no one but this class will view them...).
The written reports for groups 3 and 4 are due Dec 5th and the written reports for 1 and 2 are due Dec. 12th.
Check the handout on the projects given out in October for the details of what needs to be handed in.

Assignment: Test #4:  Take-home (see above).       Finish preparing for final presentations, to begin the week after Thanksgiving. Have a nice holiday.....
