It has become apparent to me that I have the most unbelievable kit in Sasha... If you read earlier you know I took her in to the vet tonight (8/10/04) if not here is a brief recap: she had been ill since Saturday, crabby, sore tummy, eyes consistantly draining and red so bad she couldn't see.  Figured this visit would be her last.  Now, obviously from the tone you probably realize I did not bring home an empty carrier tonight!  Her vet was astounded with her health... considering her belly is so loaded with cancer she is like a sack of gigantic marbles - and they are leaking, he was sure she would be going to the rainbow bridge tonight from our phone conversation however she is doing so well he said absolutely no need to put her down just yet- she has several months at least left in her.  He checked the fluid from her tumors and while it's certainly inconvenient -her not bothering the areas has kept them at bay, and they are not in the bacterial stage.  Everything else about her is in good shape and the only problem she has right now is a bad viral infection in her eyes that is causing her pain and discharge.  Not quite the normal variety of eye infection yet a few days of meds and she should be good.  I have to give her a salve (yup you got that right, an actual salve in her eyes vs eye drops) twice a day for a few days and if it doesn't clear up I have to get some stronger drops, however he was fairly certain she would respond well to this first treatment and he gave her a final check up, some much loved attention and back in the carrier she went!

Tobey and Crystal are not in the same shape however and they are on those aweful tasting meds that Tobey hated.  He at least tolerated his first dose again though he was a bit pissy.  Crystal however is proving to be the worst of the three... she is the sickest- and yet catching her is virtually impossible, putting her wrapped in a blanket or towel -completely impossible, and holding her still in a vice grip to try to pry open her mouth a task that caused me to loose a pint of blood I swear.  And this is dose one of 14 so I am in trouble!  Thankfully the vet gave Sasha her salve to show me how to apply it so I don't have to wrestle with my 12 lb patient until tomorrow but I do expect her to be just as bad... The only bonus for me is that Sasha is so big, it is rather easy to corner her on the couch and hold her with my legs and arm and have a free hand to get at that pretty face of hers!  Crystal is a bit too small, wily and fast (not to mention those lethal daggers for nails she has!

So I think ya'll need to fear for me more so than Sasha for awhile... she at least has proved the vet wrong yet again, given me a big shock and relief and was last seen romping about as if that salve already was helping perk her peepers up!
