GOD & LIFE

Where do I find the most serenity in my life? Usually in the spiritual side. You know the sayings - "peace that passes all understanding", and many others. If you're willing to give it a chance, it's true.

For the past few years I've been on a big journey of discovery. I grew up a pastor's kid, always involved in music thanks to my piano playing skills. When my child arrived I got involved in kid's ministry. I started both a praise team and kid's church, and did that solidly for 3 years before burning out completely. Unfortunately the church where I served was not terribly open to new ideas, and it got kind frustrating trying to push something different past those who didn't want to know about it.

So after 3 years I resigned from everything, and told God, "You take me somewhere now where I can grow and learn". I ended up attending a church I would never have thought to attend, and after a few months was drafted into the worship team - my first stint as pianist for a band! I had an awesome 2 years on the team, but once again God asked me to step out, step back and learn what worship was all about before it became just a cool performance.

At the same time I took a complete church break, taking time out to just Be for a while, learning and growing in what it means to be a Christian, to truly live your life for God and not just be a pew-warmer.

It's been a learning curve! I've gone from "denominations are bad!" to "amazing where you'd find a Christ-follower" to "BE the church, don't attend it" to... well, you name it, and I've been there recently.

Thanks to the internet, I've made connections with many wonderful people all over the world, who have helped me grow and learn on this journey. Folk from the Emerging Church scene, folk in traditional denominational churches, folk who are just being church without attending it, and a couple who have been burned very badly by institutional churches and would rather have nothing to do with them ever again.

On this journey, blogging has taken a front seat in my learning curve. See the Blogdom page for more on this....
