LIST of  Early STEREO Photographers & Publishers - Palestine

1900's BOOK: Traveling in the Holy Land thru the stereoscope

A complete set: Stereoviews, a viewer and a box (designed like two books)

A short chronology of Palestine/israel
The views tell the story of early (then called) Palestine, In those days nor the Jews nor the Arabs were independent:

- 1839 - (first photographs of the country) - the Turkish ruled the country untill WWI
- 1917 - the British army entered Jerusalem (Palestine became A British colony)
- 1948 - Israeli independence war: the country became Israel (half of Jerusalem and the west Bank goes to Jordan)
- 1967 - The Six fdays war: the west Bank and Jerusalem are now Israel
- NOW?  Palestinians are on their way to independence, the borders are not clear...yet...

When I first saw those stereoviews from Palestine.. I was very excited. They told the "tourist" of the previous century the story of that area. The text sometimes is more interesting than the pictures.... Everything is described from the "western" point of view, looking from "above" over the "primitive" native-Palestinian (Arabs and Jews).

For example:
"The people of the Levant and the Orient who have come under british domination ... have complained against the regulations forced upon them; never the less the natives have received extentensive benefits for the English insist upon low, order and sanitation"

Who are the photographers:  Most with no Credit on the cards... just the publisher! Yet some photographers did published their own (like F.M.Good's steroview - seen bellow).
