Combine shortening, sugar, grated lemon rind, and egg; mix thoroughly. Stir in lemon juice and water. Sift together and stir in flour, soda, cream of tartar, and salt. Stir in chopped nuts. Flour hands and form dough into small balls, place about 1 inch apart on ungreased cooking sheet. Bake in 350* for 10 to 15 minutes, until bottom is brown. Remove immediately and roll in confectioners sugar. |
