Sour Dough Bread

Ingredients

1-2 tbsp melted butter
1-2 tbsp sugar or honey
2 cups sour dough starter
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup milk
2 tsp salt

Directions

Melt butter in a sauce pan and stir in the milk and sugar or honey until just warm.  Pour into a mixing bowl.  Add the starter, then stir in the flour, salt, and baking powder.  Turn the mixture onto a lightly floured board and knead lightly until the dough satiny.  Place the dough in a buttered bowl and turn dough until it is well greased.  Let it rise in a warm place until it has doubled in bulk, about 3 hours.  Punch down the bread and let it rise at least 4 hours more.  Shape the dough into loaves.  Place the loaves in a square pan, side by side so that the loaves are touching.  Let rise again until they have doubled in bulk(about 2 hours).  Bake in a 350* oven for 1 hour or until the loaves pull away from the sides of the pan and sound hollow when tapped lightly on top.  **This recipe can also be prepared with whole wheat or rye flour.**
