The Lake Erie Mohawks won by the slimmest of margins, 7 to 6. The score was tied at 5 after nine. Finally, Lake Erie pulled the game out in the 11th inning. After an out was recorded, Mickey Cochrane tripled. Cupid Childs stepped up to the plate and he was walked intentionally. Hoyt Wilhelm then was walked intentionally to load the bases. One out later, Roger Nelson came up and he bounced one in the dirt for a wild pitch resulting in an exciting win for Lake Erie and a wild post-game celebration by the home town fans. This was the kind of game that many fans love as the lead changed hands 5 times. Wilhelm(2-3) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the victory. The loss was charged to Nelson(0-1) in relief. He surrendered 1 hit and 2 walks in 2/3 of an inning. |
