Sacramento had the winning rally in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs. Rickey Henderson led off and started the rally when he drew a walk. Henderson was safe at second on a stolen base. Willie Keeler then singled. Sacramento continued their aggressive style with another stolen base. Frank Robinson struck out, unable to help the rally. Ralph Kiner was a strikeout victim, unable to help out. Roy Campanella next to the plate and he was walked intentionally to load the bases. Ron Santo then reached on an error making Sacramento the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. The teams had been locked in a scoreless duel until the 8th inning. Rollie Fingers(3-3) allowed 1 run in 1 inning, and picked up the victory. Jeff Montgomery(3-1) took the loss in relief. He gave up 2 runs and 1 hit in 2/3 of an inning. |
