Right fielder Mickey Mantle cracked a homer and Rube Waddell carried a
no-hitter into the 6th inning as the Grand River Ghostmen defeated the Kelso
Hilanders 3 to 0 at Yankee Stadium.

Waddell(7-6) dominated Kelso hitters. He allowed just 4 hits and 2 walks in 8
and 1/3 innings.  Waddell struckout 9 Kelso batters lowering his ERA to 3.12.
The left-handed Waddell had his no-hit bid broken up by Roberto Clemente who
singled with one out in the 6th inning.  Grand River had 12 hits for the
afternoon while Kelso had 4.

Bryan Harvey was credited with his 3rd save. Dan Quisenberry(0-1) was charged
with the loss in relief.  It was a tough loss for him as he did not allow an
earned run in his 2 and 1/3 innings of work.

The Grand River ballclub's record now stands at 36-49.  With the loss Kelso
now has a record of 40-48.
