The deciding run was scored by Harvey in the bottom of the 9th. After two were out Craig Biggio singled. Johnny Pesky came next and he drew a walk. Riggs Stephenson then doubled making Harvey the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. Harvey rapped out 10 hits for the night. Mark Fidrych(3-0) got the win allowing no runs in 2 innings. The right-handed Clemens had his no-hit bid broken up by Lou Boudreau who singled with nobody out in the 6th inning. Andy Messersmith(1-5) was the losing pitcher in relief. |
