Catcher Joe Torre had 2 base hits as the Bat Cracking Bombers staged a
dramatic comeback over the Limerick Hurlers by a score of 6 to 5 at Shibe
Park.

Bat Cracking won the game with a rally in the top of the 9th inning with 3
runs utilizing 3 base hits.  Duke Snider led off and keyed the rally when he
delivered a single.  Bobby Bonds came next and he banged out a single.  After
an out was recorded, Jackie Robinson stepped in and he laced a single which
scored a run.  Ruben Sierra was up next and he reached on an error scoring
one more run.  Frankie Frisch came to the plate and worked the squeeze play
to perfection scoring the final run of the inning.  Despite losing, Limerick
out-hit Bat Cracking 14 to 10.

Mario Soto(8-1) allowed no runs in 2/3 of an inning, and picked up the
victory. Bruce Sutter got the save, his 21st.  Jesse Tannehill(1-3) was
charged with the loss in relief.

After the game, it took a long while before Jimmy Dugan emerged from his
office.  In a subdued tone he answered only a couple of questions.  He
concluded with, 'Fellows, sorry I'm not in a very talkative mood tonight, as
I think you'll understand.  I'm sure you'll find the banter a lot more
light-hearted over in the Bat Cracking locker room.'
