Hinckley scored the decisive runs in a big bottom of the 9th inning scoring 2 runs on 2 hits. Dale Murphy led off the inning for Hinckley when he slapped a one-base hit. Murphy got a good lead and stole second. After an out was recorded, Ralph Kiner came up and he cleared the fences for a two-run home run (his 6th of the season) giving Hinckley the victory as 36,690 happy fans celebrated wildly. Hinckley finished with 9 hits in the victory. The victory was credited to Marichal(5-8) who went the distance, allowing 3 runs. Three Finger Brown(8-4) was tagged with the loss in relief. He pitched 1 inning allowing 2 hits and no walks. The win by Hinckley was very good news as they had been 2-8 of late. Now their seasonal record improves to 37-67. With the loss Athens now has a record of 59-43. |
