Billy Williams cleared the bases with his grand slam as the Grand River Ghostmen defeated the Athens Bobkittens 13 to 8 at Tiger Stadium. Williams was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine day at their team's expense. He slapped a one-base hit in the 2nd inning, lined a single plating a run in the 5th inning and caught a hold of a bad pitch for a Grand Slam homerun (his 3rd of the season) in the 9th inning. Grand River totaled 14 on the night. Andy Messersmith(2-6) allowed no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the victory. Carl Mays(8-11) was the loser. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 6 runs in 2 innings. |
