NEW BETTIE PAGE NEWS:

The Death of An Icon

The Associated Press has reported that Bettie Page has died Thursday, December 11, 2008 following a heart attack several days ago. The ailing Ms. Page was reported in a coma following her heart attack. She was 85, but will forever remain... ageless.Bettie Page will be interned next to Marilyn Monroe at Westwood Village Memorial Cemetary

Mark Mori: Bettie's Authorized Bio

December 16, 2008: Award-winning Producer Mark Mori has been a Bettie fan for over a decade, and along the way has interviewed Bettie, Amsie, bunny and others with a keen eye on getting it all right... AND approved by Bettie. She loved it; it's happening. Mark knows almost everybody and all of the right notes, so he's the right insider to correct Mary Herron's nice but missed the point flick. Here's the link on the banner above. Theatrical release and hoping for Bettie fans blessings. Way cool!

CBS' CSI: A Bettie Tale?

CSI Season 6, Episode 9 Atonement. Here are some stills, so you tell me. CSI Meets a Bettie Page!

;)

I am Phil Sheldon

So, the mask comes off all the way. alex ross fans know some of the real faces behind his characters, and MARVELS oppressed main character had his roots in Norridge, Illinois. That's me, Mark Braun as Phil Sheldon and it fit quite well at the time. The real storyline was created by Ross with an intro by Steve Darnall. Steve, as well as a bunch of the Chicago gang at the time, became bit players in a Ross universe that was, and is, an honor and a privilege. Phil's family were my real-life daughters elizabeth and Laura, who get a bit older in that series. My wife Mary was the "body double" for Phil's wife, portrayed by Laurie Braddach whose gallery spun into a comic book publishing company featuring Joe Quesada's ASH, 33 BRIDES and PAINKILLER JANE. And yes, ladies, Frank Kasy's chest IS the size of Superman's.Alex recycled us here and there after that in other titles, and the phot sessions from MARVELS got recycled in a great story for ASTRO CITY. Cool, eh?

A Nice Bettie & Costume Link

I've received a few emails about blogs and such, but for ladies looking for "that look," here's their site and the icons who've inspired them. Bettie & Costume Links

BPO: Bettie Page Rick Rack

Louise B of BPO discovered the matching rick rack fabric that Bettie used to make her famous orange rick rack bikini. "Bettie has always maintained that she was the one who designed and sewed her suits herself. Bettie says she shopped for the fabrics and trims at fabric shops and designed and sewed the suits herself on her sewing machine in her apartment. However Bunny Yeager says no way, she's responsible for designing and sewing many of Bettie's suits. And for the rick rack bikinis Bunny says she sewed "carded" rick rack onto the suits to make those wavy designs. From a distance, yes, the suits look like rick rack could have been sewn on top but in high res scans Bunny's story falls apart. The design was printed on, not sewn on. It's one thing to have nice scans backing up Bettie's story, it's something else all together to have a vintage example of this fabric on hand. I believe this is a win for Bettie, and I'd consider it a favor if you'd share these pics everywhere you know. Some people won't care but for those who are interested in getting Bettie's history right, this one matters." Can do, Ms. B! Good catch!

Angie Pontani: Miss Exotic World 2008

Angie is the new crowned queen of Burlesque after her Las Vega win at the annual Hall of Fame awards! Congratulations to one-third of the world Famous Pontani Sisters! Angie, baby, you rock our world!

Kevin Daley: Mistaken for Bettie Page?

Louise B, former Bettie Scouts member has started a new Yahoo group devoted to model Kevin Daley, the OTHER model with black bangs who was already well-established as a black banged model before Bettie Page. Shots of Kev have been mistaken for Bettie for a long time; hook up with the group and do some corrections on your naughty little jpeg collection!

DAVE STEVENS: July 29, 1955 - March 10, 2008

March 11, 2008: It is heartbreaking to say that artist Dave Stevens died yesterday after a long battle with leukemia and tough health struggle that was a "publicly held secret" among both friends and fans. A talented and award-winning artist, Dave Stevens began his career working over Russ Manning's work, eventually creating THE ROCKETEER which relaunched the legend of Bettie Page. Dave's body of work was small but highly lauded and loved by fans (like me). He was terrific with fans and as much an icon as his model-of-choice, Bettie Page. Dave did an excellent CD interview with Bettie, still available everywhere. We wish he'd still be here and healthy, but if there's a Sunday comics section in heaven, its got a spectacular talent pool that this ol' fanboy is looking forward to.

Jenna Jameson does a PSA as Bettie Page?

March 7, 2008: As reported on popcrunch.com, former pron starlet Jenna is in a PETA ad as Bettie Page: now THAT is a tribute! But, Bettieheads are flappin' their gums over Ms. J donning the Bettie bangs. so, here's my two cents: an homage is a tribute. I'm glad to see Jenna walk away from the pimps producing bad porn (sorry folks, but it isn't a "freedom" to film people screwing, it's pimping and pandering and, tah-dah, a sin); if Jenna Jameson as Bettie Page draws attention to PETA's cause, go for it, baby! And welcome to the side of the good guys, Jenna. BTW: Enter the contest on the PETA site to win Jenna's costume in the ad.

Twistin' By The SpiderPool: Infamous Spider Pool found!

BPO reports on two great sites (adult content, so be, ya know, adult) about the infamous Spider Pool! Sad to report that it's in pieces, but the legend of the naughty, nudey pool that was host to countless cheesecake photos can be reviewed on these excellent blogs (with thanks to Louise and Didi Mau!) the Spider Pool Blog The Spider Pool Blog #2

SpiderPool Yahoo Group!

From http://groups.yahoo.com/group/spiderpool: "The Spiderpool Research Group is concerned with all aspects of the vintage pinup photo shoot locations known to their fans as the Spiderpool and the Hacienda. The Spiderpool was part of an eccentric estate built in the Roaring '20's by silent film director and writer John W. "Jack" McDermott. The Pool received this name from the large ceramic tile spider which overlooked the swimming pool. Its remains were found in 2004, and we continue to be amazed by the Spiderpool facts and photos we discover. The Hacienda was located in July, 2006, and we're just beginning to delve into its rich history. Built by a Pasadena millionaire in 1927, the Hacienda served as the backdrop for even more photos than the Spiderpool during the heyday of 1950s cheesecake photography."

March 7, 2008: So shoot me; I own the little old shot of Bettie in a baseball jersey (top only) and swapped out her generic cap with an Old Timers cap. See our gal as well as Chicago's Svenghoulie next to Mark Braun himsselfat www.otbac.com and please don't sue me.

Viva Las Vegas Bettie Page Store!

Las Vegas has welcomed Bettie Page at the revamped Planet Hollywood Casino, aka the once-themed Aladdin on the strip. The Bettie Page store is a boutique of everything Bettie; a far cry from Ms. Page's world of fifty years ago when Estes Kefauver and his All-american witch hunting goon squad made her the target of crumbling youth control. But that's a lot of water under the bridge; Bettie's swingin' 50's style rocks on as casino shoppers can finally acknowledge what Bettie fans have always known: good girls go the heaven but bad girls go to Vegas, baby! :)

And guess who was starring just down the strip from the Bettie Page boutique? Dita von Teese...

Closing: Old Timers Baseball Association of Chicago

The final dinner will be Thursday, Sept, 10, 008 at the White Eagle, Niles, IL for $30 and all-you-can-eat. BE THERE for a place in history! The Old Timers Baseball Association of Chicago

The Ford Atmos postcard

As reported on BPO, the card is indeed authentic, showing Bettie and her then-boyfriend Richard Arbib behind the wheel. Enlargements of the image quelled the query: was it real or Xacto'd in place? "Richard Arbib was one of Bettie's beaus and according to The Book, he was an auto designer," wrote Louise B, of the BPO group. BPO is a private Bettie Page fan group of fans doing research and close examination of photos, dates, events and timelines in Bettie's life.

Betcha didn't Know About THIS BETTIE NEWS:

(the other) Bettie Page's Obituary .

Were there two Bettie Pages? Yes.

Thanks to Dave Holle for this incredible news clip: Yes, there were two Bettie Mae Pages: both were pin up models, both lived for a time in Chicago, both were guests of Playboy, and both were religious. Believe it... or not! I've speculated that pieces of THIS Bettie's life were melded into the 1950's Bettie legend. do a little research: you might be surprised...

Playboy Speaks to Bettie Page: Feb. 2007

PLAYBOY Magazine's February 2007 issue has 20 questions with Bettie Page. along with a nice Olivia illustration just in front of it, BP got to express her unhappiness with Bunny Yeagar "a cheapskate" as well as her unhappiness with THE NOTORIOUS BETTIE PAGE. mincing no words, Bettie Page let it all out in a fran and honest 20 questions. collectors: run and grab it! Michelle L'amour: Scorching in MOST NAKED WOMAN

Go figure: NBC's AMERICA'S GOT TALENT voted out burlesque star, Michelle L'amour. home girl gone awesome. Ms. L took it off over David Hasselhoff's KIT with audio, I believe, supplied by Chicago's Schadenfreude. Ms L thanked voters with a cool email all-the-while assembling her book THE MOST NAKED WOMAN. Privately printed book, it is a bit hard to find (and very, very hot, indeed) but she's been signing it here and there. At around $60, it isn't for the cheap or faint of heart, but for the price, it's as close to classy dames as most of us mopes will ever get. Personally, mine's signed and boxed to stay crisp and safe in the Mark Braun library. BTW: whatever happened to L'amour's radio show?

The NEW CITY 8-25-2006 edition had a feature on Michelle L'amour; here's the text:

John Razin's concept offers 1500 dpi images capable of producing a decent print for collectors while maintaining an ongoing vault of priceless images and their historical backgrounds. Considered the "holy grail" of Bettie Page collections, PRIVATE PEEKS editions, now out of print, command high prices among collectors. Mark and "Midnight" Joe Allen, Mitch and Bill and Bob at Belmont Burlesque

AUG. 28, 2006: YouTube yanked a video or two, but it'll still get you to ML videos that exist, so go gah-gah! So, Joe Allen, former of founding guru of iToons, countless comic books, MTV ads and Reactor's "Virtual Valery" fame(s) and I took in some excellent burly.

Chicago's BELMONT BURLESQUE is sweet, silly and some wonderful tease. Presented once a month, bring along something decent to drink (your master of ceremonies will be checkin' what ya got in the bag) and bring attitude. On the night that we were there, it was almost as if they knew there were a couple of real reviewers off to the corner (yeah, we were) and managed to squeeze into the tiny Playground Theater which ain't known for a massive floor plan. God's honest truth: Michelle L'amour, whose eye-popping appearance of NBC's stupid "America's got Talent" got David Hasselhoff to blush, performed her classy fan dance to perfection. The amazing Tomas, one hip slight-of-hand man is damned funny, and the girls are as cute as they are dedicated. About an hour; for ten bucks, you're in for a treat! We'll be back next month along with some of our hooligan friends!

Here's Michelle L'amour as we saw her, live at the Belmont Burleque (Courtesy of YouTube and hopefully Franky Vivd won't kick my ass for reposting it)

Joe and I, along with seven other friends with ages that run to from 35 to 80, keep goin' as regularly as a guy on a high fiber diet!

Betties We Love!

Thanks to Chicago Bettie Scout Ti Eastman for clarifying that there were previous Bettie Page shows in Chicago prior to UNCENSORED. Thanks for the correction(s).

Previous Betties have been seen in BETTY PAGE TALKS SIN: A LECTURE/DEMONSTRATION, written and directed by Herb Lichtenstein with Ariel Brenner as Bettie Page.

THE BETTY PAGE STORY in 1987 featured AMY OSBORN as Bettie Page. It ran for 23 weeks, It had a cast of 17, according to Flores, who had directed it for another theater group. Now, if anyone can just get me a copy of Mitch O'Connell's poster for one of those shows, I'd shut up as a happy fan :)

Elisabeth Oas: one of Chicago's 1st Betties in a more-than-one-person show Has she got the look or what? Elisabeth Oas boogied away from her Bettie stage role to do the hit movie "Save The Last Dance" and just keeps working. EO is the lady who carried the role of Bettie Page to Chicago. She's fled the whole Bettie thing, but for DANCE fans, here's the link for SAVE THE LAST DANCE

HBO and video junkies can catch a quick glimpse of Oas in CHEATERS, (the HBO drama about the real-life Steinmetz high school cheating scandal (Hey! I know that guy!).

I was astonished to discover former Bond and Playboy babe and object of countless fantasies, Lana Wood is appearing at autograph shows and has a pretty nice fan site. Can't make the shows?
