My Children

It's funny how much one's plans can change over time. When I graduated from high school, I planned on getting my bachelor's degree in finance and starting a lucrative career in investment banking. Then after establishing my career I would get married and start a family, probably in my 30's. I'm very happy that my plans changed over the years. I've learned that I've been able to be a much better mother by having the opportunity to stay home with my children during their first few years instead of having my infants/toddlers in full time daycare and viewing them as more of a burden than a blessing. I'll never regret any decisions that led up to me having the best (and hardest) job in the world, being a mother.

Kirc and I decided to hold off having children during the first few years of our marriage since I went back to Texas A&M University shortly after we married (1989). We planned back then to start a family after I finished school. As life would have it, plans are made to be changed and in January of 1994 we decided it was time to start a family. We conceived the very first month we tried and our sweet Elizabeth Catherine was born on her due date of October 9, 1994. Then our plans were to wait until I finished my degrees at Arizona State University and had started my career before we had our second child. Even though the conception of our son, John Ross, was a surprise (never an accident), he has been a true blessing to our family. In the long run, I realize that it has been best for all of us to have my children at this stage of my life. In addition, this situation has made it more possible for me to breastfeed both of my children for a longer period of time than most "working" moms do.

My Extended Family

My father-in-law, Ray Breden, was such a wonderful man. He and I grew so close within the first week of meeting each other that he considered me more like a daughter than a daughter-in-law. That was fitting as I saw him as more of a father than a father-in-law to me. He always gave me, Kirc, and our children abundant unconditional love. I only regret not getting to spend more time with my other father before his death in November of 2001. We hope to keep in touch with my step-mother-in-law (more of a mother, actually), Edna, and Kirc's half-sister, Argie, especially as we will be living much closer to each other soon. I've also had the pleasure of meeting Kirc's brothers in Indiana as well as his half-sister, Cathy, who lives in Ohio. Cathy and I also developed very quickly a special bond and I consider her my sister. I would love it if we had the opportunity to visit Kirc's side of the family more. Kirc's relatives, especially his Aunt Sissy and his cousin Terry, have welcomed me into the family with open arms. I feel loved and at home any time I get to visit with them. We've even considered moving to Indiana several times before Kirc's father passed away. Kirc's family is proof that you don't have to be born into a family to be loved and included in that family.

My mother and brother are both deceased (in April 1996 and September 1997, respectively). My father lives in Texas with his wife, my step-mother. I have two step-sisters and two step-brothers as well.
