Family Relations | ||||||||||||||||
Do you think that your family loves you? Almost all people say “Yes,” but, if your answer is “No,” you have some problems in your family relations. There are two big relations in most families. Those are relations between your parents and you, and your brother or sister and you. Good relations will support you with money, vitality, pleasure, and relaxation. It'll also help in managing the future and solving problems.
Family relations are very important in my life for many reasons. There are 5 members, parents and two sisters, in my family. First, my relation with my parents is the most basic and important relation in my family. I've been supported comfortably and get money from my parents. At the end of any day that I feel very tired, they make food for me and we talk to each other about family or hot issues. Then I feel better. They give me pocket money once a month. It makes my school life easy. Sometimes they are my life teachers. They lead me to be a good person and give opinions about my future. In summary,, they affect my life so much in a good way. Second, my relation with my sister is very helpful to me. Even though she is my sister, we can be friends occasionally. On weekends, we have many conversations about our daily life and we sometimes exercise together. These kinds of activities vitalize me, and then I feel pleasure. Sometimes my sister also can be an advisor. If I have some problems, I usually discuss the problems with my sister. We try to find a best solution, and she gives me proper advice. In brief, having a friendly relationship with a sister has lots of advantages. In conclusion, having good relations with family members will give you pleasure, comfort and fresh feelings, and support money. It means we can fill up our life energy by having fine relations with family members. The family is the basic group that composes our society. It's strongly connected with our life, it's and very important to keep good relations with family members. Therefore, we should try to make positive and wonderful family relations. |

Reasonable Distinction
We can see career women easily in any place and any time with the expansion of society; participation of women in public affairs is expanding steadily too. Therefore, the rights of women which were oppressed continuously for a long time are growing little by little. Some women’s organizations insist that women should be treated equally to men. However, I do not agree to that. Women should recognize reasonable distinction between men and women.
Above all, the structure of their bodies is very different, so both are working in different parts in our society. Generally, men are bigger, taller, and stronger than women. That is why men and women take different jobs. It may be the biggest distinction with men and women. Another reason for distinction is the difference of mental attitude for their jobs. As a head of family, men go to the work to support their family. In this situation, men have to obey to their company to avoid being fired though they may hate it. On the other hand, women think job is the place to realize their ego. For women, having a job is a valuation if a woman is a good worker or not. This difference of mental attitude causes women not to be treated equally to men at the work place. There is another special reason; military service can be the problem. Some years ago, there was a bonus point when men who were discharged from military service tried to get a job because they were isolated from society over 2 years for duty of national defense. However, women could invest their time to develop themselves not like men. For this reason, men have shorter time to prepare for entering work than women. To remove this problem, we should agree on a distinction about military service. In summary, there are many reasons for a reasonable distinction. Of course women have been oppressed by men, so I can understand they want to get their rights. But, women must remember this, "Rome was not built in a day." Women should not change all unfair things blindly. It should be changed slowly and tightly with agreeing the reasonable distinction. Then, true equality will come. |

All Young Korean Men's Wish
Most men in Korea are given a common responsibility. It’s compulsory military service. They must spend two years of their youth in army to protect their country. Even though it is a proud job, no one in Korea is willing to do it. There are mainly two reasons for that. One is that people feel serving it for two years is a huge waste of time, and the other is that people don’t want to be ordered around by others. However, I do believe that compulsory service is necessary; thus, to improve the image of the service, it may be a good idea to reform in certain areas, and I have three ideas which can change the service to make it better.
First of all, almost everyone who has to go to the army doesn’t like the idea of spending two years. Because I, myself, went there, I know it is a long period of time. It seems that one and a half years are a more acceptable amount of time. This is because when soldiers reach the rank of sergeant class, they practically do nothing but play around. They call themselves “Pre-Citizens,” and it is a time solely to prepare for their return to the society. The peak of their efficiency as a soldier is reached when they become corporal. Therefore, reducing by a half year is good for the country, not wasting money on “Pre-Citizen,” and for the soldiers who can finish their service earlier. The next thing is about money. Depending on the rank of the soldiers, the pay differs a little, but generally it’s around twenty thousand won. Spending two years of their youth and getting 20,000 won a month is simply unacceptable. The worse thing is that the soldiers working at some government office instead of the army due to their physical defect get paid much more than regular soldiers. They also have other privileges which make their jobs far more attractive than the regular service. These privileges may not be able to be given to regular soldiers, but the wage can be adjusted to the soldiers’ satisfactory level. By paying the soldiers more than those working in some government offices, many young males can feel better about going to army. For the last, it’s about after the service. When the service is over, everyone has to go to the training for reserved army once a year. This is really bothersome, but necessary to maintain their skills as a soldier. The problem is the generality the training has. No matter what kind of job in army people had, everyone receives the same training. The training will be more efficient if they receive training related to their job in the army. Furthermore, reducing the length of the training would be nice. The training takes about 3 days. However, because most of trainees are employees of many businesses, reducing the amount of time is helpful to the trainees and to the companies which hired them. Even though people detest going to army, maintaining the strong armed force is required for preventing conflict between the South and the North. Therefore, to ease the hostile feeling of young males toward the military service, higher wages, the better reserved force training system and, most importantly, shorter service time are the kind of reform the government should take. Through these changes, people will accept their responsibility of protecting their country more at their will than being forced to. |

Traffic Problems in Seoul
Seoul is the biggest city in Korea. Definitely its population is very large. Also many people live outside of the Seoul. They come to Seoul to work every morning and go back home every night. So, the traffic congestion has become one of the serious problems which Seoul has.
Traffic congestion causes much economic loss. First, it takes our precious time just for driving in the morning. Second, traffic jams make cars go slowly. When cars go slowly, they consume more oil. Korea can’t produce oil. So, we have to import more oil. Third, we have to spend more money to build more roads and traffic systems. And, to maintain the facilities, we also need money. Traffic congestion also increases car accidents, too. Many Koreans have quick tempers. When cars go slowly, some of them try to go fast and make an accident. Among the OECD countries, Korea always takes the first place in car accident department. And, almost everyday, someone in Seoul dies because of a car accident. Finally, environmental contamination occurs due to the traffic congestion. When cars go slowly, they produce more sooty smoke. Sooty smoke pollutes the air and makes us feel heavy in the chest. Also, smoke can cause smog and acid rain. Smog can damage our health, seriously. Acid rain weakens artificial structures and acidifies lakes and forests. In conclusion, traffic congestion causes economic losses, increases car accidents, threatens our health, and pollutes the environment. The Seoul city government knows the serious problems of traffic congestion and has tried to solve the problem. But, it still need more effort and time. It is hard to see stars in the night because smokes and dust which cove the Seoul interrupt the light of stars. I hope someday that we can see stars in the sky and breathe in a fresh air. |

Changes for the Development of Korea
During 'The 1988 Seoul Olympic Games' period, many people all over the world were surprised at Korea. They had thought that Korea was just a small divided country in East Asia. However, when they came to Korea and saw it, they really admired its change. In fact, after the Korean War, Korea had many difficulties. People were often poor, hungry and sick. But they began to work hard and finally made a better country. However, there are still many negative things in Korea. First of all, there are various cliques in Korea. These cliques influence many parts of the society. For instance, people who are in different cliques select unfairly when others want to get a job. For this reason, some people who have more ability suffer a loss. Therefore, we should not form the cliques anymore. Moreover, there is a wide gap between the rich and the poor. Some people eat expensive foods and buy foreign-made articles. In contrast to this, there are many people who can eat food only once a day. This matter makes people depressed. We need to solve this problem. In addition, Korea should be reunified. North and South Korea have been divided for the past 50 years. During those times, we have had a lot of losses. It is not only a political loss but also an economic loss because we need to pay expensive military costs. If the two Koreas reunify, we can expect some regional and economic advantages. Through these advantages, we can develop. Korea has developed for many years. However, there are many things which interfere with more development. For example, people from the regional, academic and blood cliques. Furthermore, there are still many discriminations like between the rich and poor. Also, we suffer a damage of divided country. Accordingly, we should correct these things that check the development. Through these efforts to change, we can make progress in Korea. |

The Importance of Family
"What is the most necessary thing for people to live?" Many eople would say education, money, love and friendship. However, I'll answer family. As family is mostly in our daily life, we hardly think how important it is and how much it affects our lives. We just take it for granted but we need to know how great job it has been doing as teacher, shelter, and counselor. First of all, an important role of family is to teach courtesy and rules. Most societies have their own manners and norms. When people are young, they need to now what is proper behavior. For example, Koreans cherish and respect the elderly, so we use an honorific for of speaking to address them. Thus, when we are children, we learn how to talk and act with older people properly. Parents and siblings teach us and correct them if us are wrong. It's really important to acquire the right ways to communicate and to behave. Secondly, family performs as a shelter. There is a saying that there is no place like home. It shows us how family provides us a warm and comfortable atmosphere. When we suffer hardship and adversity, it gives us an easy feeling and takes care of us. We can be relaxed. It also encourages us to start and to try again. Family is our strong supporters in mental and physical aspects. Finally, family helps make our decisions easier. People sometimes meet important or hard situations such as choosing a company, spouse, or major. When we face difficult decisions, we might be puzzled or we might not know what to do. However, there is a family beside us to ask for help. They have more knowledge and experience especially the elderly; parents, or older siblings. Moreover, as family is a strong unit bound by same blood, they try more to find best answer than anyone else. In conclusion, family is the primary group of society as well as the first group that human belongs to. People might overlook its significance; however, it has kept its original functions for a long time. Family educates, cares for and protects, and counsels its members so that they can adopt to society easily without fear. Family is the most essential unit that makes people mature and society firm. |
