Shortly after their marriage on December 28, 1876, Samuel "Sam" and Catherine "Kate", "Cate" "Kattie" Lockhart McBride homesteaded west of Swallows, Colorado on the south side of the Arkansas River. All eleven children were born and raised there. Sam died at age 88 and Catherine was 84. They are buried at Swallows Cemetary, Swallows, Colorado. Samuel The following is from a letter written to Bonnie (wife of Arthur [Pete] McBride, son of Leslie) by Sallie McBride (Daughter of Sam) on May 16, 1962). Sam was born September 15, 1846 in ?Ohio, to Esau McBride and Malinda James. Their children were born in Ohio but later they moved to Missouri. There children were: Bartlett Samuel Sandford Martha One other girl Two other boys killed in the Civil War One girl married a man by the name of Cotton, the other by the name of Whitehead. They had cousins by the name of Edwards. One was John Edwards, who lived in Nebraska Bartlett married a women whose name could have been ?Ella. There children were Anna, Ella, Myrtle, Chris, and 4 more girls. They raised their family in "Indian Territory", now Oklahoma. Most of them moved to Arkansas. (Sallie offered no information about Sanford.) |

Catherine Jane Lockhart Catherine was born to Thomas Lockhart and Sarah Judge, both from Ireland. Thomas was the Son of Oliver Lockhart of Ardara (Loughros peninusula), Ireland. Oliver Lockhart, brother of Thomas, had several children. In 1896 he lived in Parish of ?(Ineskill) county, Donegal County, Ireland. His wife's name was Margaret. Their children's names were William, Catherine, Sarah, Oliver, Samuel, Joseph, Andrew, Lilly, Isabella "Fanny". Joseph and Oliver came to Denver. Oliver married and had one son named Oliver ( from Letter by Sallie, 1962). The children of Thomas and Sarah were: Catherine Jane Margaret Sallie Belle William Belle, William, and Margaret had no children. Sallie married Ashbel St. Clair. They had two children, Belle and Caroline. Both married. Caroline lives in Denver, Colorado and Belle has one child and lives near Durango (From Sallie's letter, 1962) |
