A Heritage of Leadership

In 1954, the Guillermo B. Guevara family boldly ventured into metallurgy. They built a carbide furnace plant in Iligan City utilizing abundant hydroelectric power from the mighty Ma. Cristina Falls. Thus MCCI was born. Successfully instituting the country’s first calcium carbide company. And heralding the birth of a new industry.

MCCI marked another milestone when it forged a partnership with the Union Carbide Corporation of America in 1956, resulting in the infusion of valuable technical expertise, which further accelerated progress. Starting as a single carbide furnace plant, the young company began ferroalloy production from the same furnace in 1959, built a second furnace for ferro-silicon in 1975, and completed a third furnace in 1980.
