S25 aka DYS463
null

Background
It was noticed by Alister John Marsh that a higher level of nulls
existed in DYS463 in some haplogroups and the suspicion was that a SNP existed
within this region. Considerable work by Ethnoancestry identified and developed
the S25 SNP test. As yet it is unclear whether this SNP is the same as the DYS463
null phenomena. There are several people who claim that a separate SNP in the
same region is associated with the so called South West Irish R1b group or Irish
III group.
See Ken Nordtvedt’s modal for R1b-Ir3
The same group is a subcluster of R1bSTR49 . It is the separate subgroup/branch between
Harvey YX6ND and McConnell HQTRT, near the top of the cluster.
Occurrence
Currently on the R1b SNP table there are 6 S25+ derived individuals. However,
2 R1a individuals are also derived and I1c and an E3b individual are ancestral.
Thus it would appear that S25 is at present a poorly defined SNP defining an
upper level node in the Y chromosome haplogroup tree.
Summary
S25 is a novel as yet only partially defined SNP.
