Single IDE hard drive installation Part: IDE hard drive and documentation for the drive ( if possible ) IDE cable Tools Anti-static materials Step1. Romove the cover from the computer. Use proper anti-static procedures. Step2. Configure the hard drive for master by referring to the documentation included with the hard drive. IDE hard drives are normally pro-configured to the master setting. Step3 .Loacate pin 1 on the hard drive's connector. Step4. Loacate an available drive bay in the computer system. Step5. Attach any mounting hardware needed to install the hard drive into the computer case and slide the hard drive into the computer case. Step6. Connect the power connector to the new drive. Step7. Connect the 40 pin signal cable to the hard drive verifying that the pin 1 connects to the hard drive connector's pin 1. Step8. Locate pin 1 on the motherboard or the adapter's IDE connector. Step9. Connect the other end of the 40 pin cable to the motherboard or to the adapter ensuring the cable's pin 1 connects to the adapter or motherboard's pin 1. Step10. Power on the computer and go into the computer's setup program. Some computers will automatically go into the setup program when detecting a change such as the installation of a hard drive. Step11. Configure the computer for the type of hard drive that is being installed. Step12. If the hard is not new, the system should boot from the hard drive. Otherwise, if the drive is new, the hard drive must be partitioned and high level formatted. Step13. Power off the compter and re-install the computer's cover. Home |
