The Director's Notebook Project
The Royal Shakespearian Company has contacted you to direct a new version of Twelfth Night. You have been given an unlimited expense account.  As the director you must do everything involved with taking the written word off the page and presenting it to a very discriminating audience.  The first thing you must do is compile a notebook that will describe, in detail, your treatment of the following scenes:

Act I, scene iii  Toby, Andrew and Mario at Olivia court.

Act II, scene iv  Orsino discussing his love for Olivia while
Viola attempts to hint at her true feelings.

Act II, scene v    The duping of Malvolio in the garden while
the "boys" watch from the box tree.

Act III, scene i    Olivia displays her love for Cesario (Viola).

Act IV, scene ii    The Clown playing both himself and Sir
Topas when he visits Malvolio in prison.

Now, tis project is rather extensive because you must now produce your scenes according to the following agenda:

1. Setting- you must change it to fit your time period
2. Cast of Characters- you must pick actors
3. Plot- this must stay relatively intact
4. Language- this must be changed to the idiom of your choice
5. Themes- this will probably remain intact
6. Spectacle-
     a. Sets
     b. Costumes
     c. Music
     d. Make-up
     e. Lighting
     f. Props

Once finished with your director's notebook you may choose to act out your scene for a class presentation or on video for extra credit.
