About McMaur's...................
I started showing/breeding collies in 1971, after moving from the midwest to Anaheim, CA. It was there that I met and became very good friends with my mentor in collies - Patricia Thomas (who is now 90+ years young with a mind/memory that is sharper than mine will ever be!). I got my start in collies from Pat with a normal eyed double grandaughter of Ch. Valley View Whirlaway. Pat told me all about the eye problems in our collie breed and also the fact that most of the breeders were not doing anything to correct this problem. It was at this time that I made my decision to prove to the collie world that you CAN HAVE SHOW QUALITY COLLIES WITH NORMAL EYES!

I am very careful and selective in my breeding program. Both sire and dam must be of very good quality. Both must have the correct collie temperment and show no signs of health problems. On most of the litters both sire and dam are normal eyed and OFA'd. As a result, my collies are known not only for their normal eye ratings, but also for their good health, good temperment, and their longevity.

I keep and raise mostly smooths here at McMaur's. I love the smooth's zest for life and their honesty as WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET! There is no way to hide faults on a smooth.

In 1998, at the urging of Allene McKewen, the Southeastern Guide Dog School in Florida contacted me in regards to acquiring some of my smooths. The school needed to renew their breeding program and wanted to work with a breeder who would provide them with genetic normal eyed collies with good hips. The school acquired "Meg" (McMaur's Sugar N Spice), a non carrier from me and also took back to Florida 3 pups from another litter. I am very proud of the fact that my smooths were chosen to become a very important part of the school's breeding program and to know that McMaur's smooths are being trained to be guide dogs for the blind.

We have included pictures of some of McMaur's collies on this website, both past and present. We hope you enjoy seeing them. Please be aware that all the dogs featured here are NORMAL EYED and all adults are OFA'd at 2 years of age.
