THE ENGLISH RIVER McNAUGHTONS

(Written in 1954 by Arnold McNaughton)

The second John was given the name Osche. It must have been Gaelic and likely meant something. However, he was often referred to as John of the River. He brought up his family on a farm near Russeltown. Running through the property was the English River as it has been known these many years. To the Clan at Hemmingford they were distinguished from the other families as the "English River McNaughtons". As the years passed and the family grew up, they separated to different places in North America. Today this branch of the Clan has died out in all but one family and they are known here as the "Wisconsin McNaughtons".

The third son in the family of the three Johns was known as Johnnie. He never married and died at Hemmingford many years ago.
