Rick’s Restaurant Review
By Rick Patton
The Black Bear Diner
1751 Highway 95
I know, I know, I’ve reviewed
this place before. That being the case, this will be more of a “Ride Review”.
Rich, Dale and I met at the Powerhouse at high noon on Sunday, August 6 for our
usual Sunday ride. After some discussion of motorcycles, people who weren’t
there and the general events of the day Rich suggested we go to the Black Bear
Diner in
The ride was pleasant and
uneventful until we passed the summit of
The air conditioning felt so
good we didn’t mind waiting ten or fifteen minutes for a table. Eventually we
were seated and I began squinting at the menu. I wouldn’t have known what to
order if Dale hadn’t loaned me his bifocals (Getting old isn’t for wimps). Just
for grins I ordered a tuna melt with coleslaw. Dale had the same and Rich had
the Gobbler. I assume that was some kind of turkey sandwich.
They were busy so the food
took longer than usual to get there. We began to wonder if they had to go out
and catch the tuna fish. The sandwiches
finally arrived and we were pleasantly surprised by how tasty they were. The
tuna melt was on marble rye and was graced with a generous amount of tuna and
cheese. The coleslaw was pretty good as well. Rich didn’t complain about his
gobbler so it must have been good as well.
The ride back to Kingman
started out hot but cooled off as we gained altitude. Actually this was a
pretty nice ride. I’ll rev it up to 8 grand on the old Route 66 Riders’ Tach.
