The Cowboy Café
686 N. Tegner
Wickenburg, AZ
On the way home
from Tombstone we decided to stop in Wickenburg for lunch. It was a good thing
we did or we never would have discovered The Cowboy Café. It’s on the north
side of town about a mile before the junction of the 93 and 60 highways, on the
right as you’re going south. There isn’t a great view of the parking lot so
lock your bike.
Things weren’t too
busy so we were seated almost immediately in a booth that was clean and
comfortable. The interior is Old West
and there’s a life size cutout of Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels (The Lone
Ranger and Tonto) on the wall. There are a lot of autographed pictures of rodeo
champions up on the walls as well. A nice touch was the addition of joke books
on the tables. Josephine liked the one on how to drive an idiot crazy. Does she
really have the need for such instruction?
It wasn’t too long
before the waitress came to take our orders. Josephine had the Cowboy Burger
with Freedom Fries and I had the Reuben Sandwich with coleslaw. The food came
surprisingly fast and it tasted great. The Reuben was served club style in that
there was an extra slice of rye bread in the middle. The corned beef was tender
and moist and Josephine says the burger was good also.
The sandwiches
range from $6.00 to $8.00 and from the way the Reuben tasted, I’d say they’re
worth every penny of it. Next time
you’re in Wickenburg check out the Cowboy Café. You’ll enjoy it. I’ll rev this
one up to 4 ½ grand on the old Route 66 Riders Tach.
