On Sunday, October 1, 2006 we met at the Powerhouse once again for an impromptu ride. Somebody mentioned that Stockton Hill Rd was paved all the way to Pierce Ferry Rd. Well, that decided it for us; we went to The Crows Nest in Meadview. The ride up there was pleasant and largely uneventful except for the dead cow by the side of the road. The smell was …. Well, a dead cow smell. Anyway, we made it up there with no further incident.

The restaurant seemed cozy and friendly. We pushed a table up to a booth and sat down. Our waitress was right there to take our drink orders and we all ordered iced tea which came almost immediately. We then looked at the menu and found that breakfast is served all day except for pancakes and French toast which they stop serving at 4:00. We were looking for lunch though and the usual orders went in. I had the chili size. Sandwiches range from $6.00 to $8.00 and come with your choice of fries or cole slaw. With drink and tip, you’ll probably end up spending around $10.00 for lunch.

The food came pretty quickly and we stopped talking and started eating. My chili size was pretty good but it did need a dash of the Cholula hot sauce that was left on the table. That spiced it up. I didn’t hear any complaints from anybody else about the food so I guess the other meals were good as well. I’m just glad that nobody mentioned the dead cow while we were eating all that beef.

The ride home was like the ride up including the cow. I’m glad that Stockton Hill is now paved all the way to Pierce Ferry as this opens up a new destination for us.

The ride was fun, the food was good, the service was friendly, and the company was great. All in all I’m going to rev this one up to 9 grand on the old Route 66 Riders’ Tach. Redline is 10.
