RICK'S RESTAURANT REVIEW
THE FRONTIER CAFE
On Sunday, May 23, Rich Keppner and I decided to ride out to
Truxton
to see how The Frontier Cafe was
doing after it had been closed for
so long. We had a nice tail wind on
the 40-45 mile ride out and got
there in about 45 minutes.
The place hasn't changed much during its hiatus. The first
thing we
noticed was that the gravel parking
lot made pushing your bike back
into a parking space a bit
difficult. But, what the hey, we got
strong legs. Inside it was like
they never closed. The prices were a
little higher though. My chili size
was $6.95 and the other sandwiches
were in the same range. It was a
good thing they put both red and
green
to keep dousing it with the green
stuff so it would have some bite to it.
The iced tea glasses could have been larger as well. They
did keep them
filled for us, however, and our
waitress was friendly.
On the ride back we had to fight the same wind that had been
at our backs
on the outbound trip. It was a
pleasant Sunday afternoon ride.
It's a good thing that the Frontier Cafe has reopened. This
is a nice
intermediate distance ride to a
cooler area that I recommend we do a
couple more times this summer. I'll
rev The Frontier Cafe up to 4 grand
on the old Route 66 Riders tach. As
always redline is 5.
