While in Flagstaff for Josephine’s back
surgery (it went well fortunately) we had the pleasure of dining at Hog’s
Family Restaurant. The name has nothing to do with motorcycles; it was the
owner’s nickname on the football team. The décor however is very pig oriented.
There is a plethora of pig pictures, stuffed pigs and porcelain porkers on the
walls. One wall is devoted to pictures of our troops serving overseas. Veterans
get to sign this wall and they get a 10% discount. This is my kinda place.
Lighting is unique. Old washtubs hang upside
down from the ceiling and are the shades for energy saving light bulbs –
clever, huh?
Hog’s serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and
it looks like you can order breakfast any time. Prices for breakfast range from
$2.50 for a short stack to $9.00 for steak & eggs. Lunch is classic burgers
and sandwiches. Prices range from $6.00 to $7.50. The chili size was excellent.
Josephine had the rainbow trout for $8.29 and enjoyed it immensely. Dinners
range from $8.00 for Chicken Tenders to 14.00 for a T-Bone
Steak. I got to taste their homemade chili and found it to be delicious.
It tastes kinda like my own. The portions are generous and the service is
great. I’ll rev this up to 9½ grand on the old Route 66 Riders Tach. Redline is
10.
