Rick’s Restaurant Review

Farrell’s Golden Horseshoe
4501 N. London Bridge Rd
Lake Havasu City, AZ 86404
Today
we rode to Lake Havasu and had lunch at Farrell’s Golden Horseshoe on London
Bridge Rd. About 14 of us left the Power House in Kingman and we picked up a
few more along the way so 17 of us showed up in Havasu. The Golden Horseshoe
was a pleasant surprise. The exterior is unpainted wood giving it a rustic barn
like effect. The interior is paneled with corrugated tin like the hot tin roof
that made that cat so famous. Beer ads and Hi-Def TV’s adorn the walls. Most of
the TV’s were tuned to the AFL Championship Game, except for the ones at our
table. They would bring in only women’s basketball or hockey. If you had the
eyes of a peregrine falcon, you could see the score on the nearest TV with the
game. Seriously though, those of us who wanted to were able to keep up with the
game.
All
seventeen of us were seated at a large square table conveniently situated next
to the restrooms and our drink orders were taken. We looked at the menus and
debated the significance of the large desert tortoise sculpture in the middle
of the table while we waited. The other great debate was about what to do with
the peanut shells. Some wanted to throw them on the floor and some took pity on
our waitress who said she had to sweep them up. Eventually we were provided
with a small crockery pot to put them in.
The
drinks came pretty quickly and we then ordered the food. They serve salads, hot
and cold sandwiches, burgers and features. Features are the steaks, fish &
chips and meat loaf. Salads range from $8.00 for the Garden Classic to $12.00
for the Steak House Salad. Sandwiches and burgers will run you anywhere from
$8.00 for the Classic Burger to $10.00 for the Triple Decker Club. I had the
Chili Size. (Is anybody surprised?) The chili is their Tenderloin Beef Tip
Chili and it has chunks of tenderloin beef tips in it. It was very tasty
indeed. The portions were generous and there were no complaints.
Our
food took about a half an hour to arrive. That wasn’t too bad considering there
were 17 of us. We really kept out waitress hopping, but she remained calm and
kept up a pleasant demeanor.
The
Golden Horseshoe turned out to be an enjoyable dining experience and I’ll
recommend it favorably for lunch ( They serve dinner
too.), and I’ll rev this one up to 9 ½ grand on the old Route 66 Riders Tach.
