The Hot Rod Café

1929 E. Andy Devine

Kingman, AZ 86401

Josephine and I got out of church early last Sunday and we had some time to kill before we all met for the ride at the Powerhouse. So we decided to check out The Hot Rod Café on Andy Devine and Stockton Hill for a late breakfast.

Upon entering one is greeted with relics of the 50’s and 60’s automotive technology. The stuff on the wall is interesting and brings back boyhood memories. One corner of the wall décor is devoted to motorcycles so at least we’re represented. The back room is all NASCAR memorabilia. It all makes for pleasant scenery while dining. If you sit in the front, you can keep an eye on your bike in the parking lot.

The service was great and our waitress was friendly and attentive. Josephine had a short stack and coffee and I had hash browns, English muffin and decaf. Josephine liked the coffee and her pancakes were big enough to almost cover the plate. My muffin and hash browns were adequate. The jury’s still out on the chili size as it was breakfast time and as much as I like chili size, it just doesn’t sound good that early. By the way, breakfast is served until 11:00 am, but I got the idea that that’s not a hard and fast rule.

The prices are reasonable – sandwiches are in the $5.00 to $7.00 range and Chili size is $6.25. Burgers are named after cars. The ¼ pound “Studebaker” is $4.95, the ½ pound “Mustang” is $6.49 and if you’re real hungry the 1 pound “Thunderbird” is $9.95. Seniors (55+) can get 50 cent beverages any time.

All in all we were pretty happy with The Hot Rod Café and I’ll rev this one up to 9 grand on the old Route 66 Riders’ Tach.
