Rick’s
Restaurant Review
HUEY’S
Sometimes we visit
restaurants that are out of our usual area to ride in. This is such a
case. I rode 1500 miles to visit my
daughter and grandson in
This place has a
lot of character. It’s dark, noisy,
cluttered and friendly. It looks like it was decorated by Salvador Dali during
a heroin nightmare. Personally I like that sort of thing. Writing on the walls
and shooting your toothpick into the ceiling with your
soda straw are encouraged. Every year
they clean the toothpicks out of the ceiling and you can buy a guess as to how
many there are. The money is donated to the local zoo. If your guess is closest, you get a $100 bar
tab. There are two sports TV’s on and they play 60’s music. Sandwiches are
generally in the $4 to $6 range.
Mandy ordered the
chicken tenders and when I had to describe a chili size to the waitress, I
decided on their special Smokey melt burger.
Ten minutes later our food was served and we stopped talking and started
eating. The melt was delicious and the
chicken was also. The onion rings were enormous. We ate until we were
uncomfortable. Interestingly enough their patty melt
includes lettuce and tomato. That added a unique taste.
The bill was
something of a surprise as the onion rings were extra and the drinks were a
little more than I’m used to. All in all, it was a fine dining experience. On
the Route 66 Riders Tach, I’d rev this one up to 4 1/2 grand. Redline is 5.
