“Stay
close to your inner self. You will benefit in many ways.” That’s what the
fortune cookie said.
Today I
had the buffet lunch at the Hunan Chinese Restaurant on Kino. The first thing
that impressed me as I walked in was the uncluttered cleanliness of the place.
It is spacious, light and airy. The interior is dominated by a large etched glass
clipper ship in front of the two steam tables. The white walls are tastefully
adorned with still life paintings. There
are enough windows so that if you feel the need to keep an eye on your bike,
you can if you get up and walk around a bit. This also helps move the food
around so you don’t get uncomfortable.
The procedure
is simple – the waiter shows you to a table, you tell him/her what you’re
drinking and you head for the two buffet tables behind the aforementioned
etched glass clipper ship.
Grab a
plate and fill it with everything from egg rolls to fried rice to lo mein to barbeque pork to more varieties of chicken than
Julia Child could have ever come up with. There was Honey Chicken, Mongolian
Chicken, General Tsu’s Chicken, Kung Pow Chicken, Cashew Chicken, Won Ton Chicken, Chicken Potstickers and some kind of Chicken-on-a-stick (at least I
think it was chicken). Anyway, it was all delicious, not too spicy and
reasonable too. The lunch buffet with drink and tax came to $8.05.
All-in-all,
I’ll recommend The Hunan Chinese Restaurant for a good Chinese lunch or dinner.
I’ll rev this one up to 9 grand on the old Route 66 Riders Tach.
By the way, the fortune cookie also gave the numbers 24, 28, 33, 30, 44 and 17
if anybody wants to play the lottery, but if you win, I want my cut……
