IRON SKILLET #15
I-40 AND
On Sunday, July 20, 2003 we went to the Iron Skillet at the Petro Station at exit 66 on I-40. By "we" I mean
Eagle & Brenda and Josephine and myself. We figured "Hey, this is a
truck stop. The food's gotta be great...right? as we entered, we stopped and browsed the merchandise just
inside the door. There was a lot of interesting stuff there, but we were
interested in eating so we didn't buy anything.
The interior is light and airy with knick-knacks on the
walls. There's a big counter area in front with tables and booths in back. We
looked for a hostess to seat us but the sign said "Please seat yourself"
so we did. We picked table 52. Unfortunately that's where the ant infestation
was. So we moved to another table and left our six legged friends behind.
Sandwiches are in the 5-7 dollar range.
We had already ordered and our waitress caught up with us to bring us
our order. I had the Chili Size since I hadn't had one for a while and
Josephine helped herself to the salad bar. Eagle and Brenda just had soft
drinks. The Chili Size was pretty good. They used a beanless
chili and for reasons as yet unknown, the bun was upside down. Oh well,
everybody's gotta be different. The Size was
delicious and came with an equally good skillet of cole
slaw. Josephine reports that the Salad Bar was clean and well stocked. Her
salad was good
The service was not as good as I remembered. But, hey, they
were busy and we weren't starving to death. The waitress did forget Brenda's
water and I had to get up and get my own Pepsi refill.
I'm afraid that due to the ants and the service this one only revs up to 3 1/2 grand on the old Route 66 Riders tach.
