Rick’s Restaurant Review

Lamb’s Family Diner

15964 Pierce Ferry Rd.

Dolan Springs, AZ

On September 11, 2005 we decided, with very little haggling by the way, to ride to Dolan Springs and see if we could find a restaurant that Luci and Roger used to enjoy. After a pleasant but uneventful ride we found it just where they left it. It is under different management now, however. We decided to try it anyway.

There is a spacious dining area with a good view of the parking lot so we could keep an eye on our bikes. The walls are adorned with pictures of old Western stars. I recognized Roy Rogers and Gabby Hayes. There is an interesting fountain in one corner that is comprised of an old hand pump and a barrel.

They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and the prices are quite reasonable. Burgers are $4.00 to $5.00, hot and cold sandwiches are about the same. Dinners are $5.00 to $7.00. The lunch sandwiches come with your choice of coleslaw, fries or macaroni salad. Three of us had the coleslaw and nobody had anything nice to say about it so I’ll recommend the fries with your sandwich. I had the chili size (shhhhh! My wife thinks I had a nice healthy turkey sandwich.) The food took about 20 minutes to arrive. Apparently the cook had to go to the market across the street to get some cans of chili and hamburger meat. I guess they’ve got to get it somewhere. The chili size, or chili burger as they call it, was just all right. I’ve had better and I’ve had worse. At first the portions looked small, but then I realized that the plate was too big and all that empty space was deceiving.

If you’re hungry in Dolan Springs, I’ll recommend Lamb’s Family Diner and rev it up to 3 grand on the old Route 66 Riders Tach. As always redline is 5.
