RICK'S RESTAURANT REVIEW
LILO'S WESTSIDE CAFE
Well the warm sunny days are back with us and we took
advantage of this one by riding the 90 or so miles out Old Route 66 to
Seligman. It was a pleasant ride and we had about 15 motorcycles show up. We
really need to get better at dividing up into groups because we had one group
of four and the other was 11. In any case we all made it. Except for those who
chose to eat in Peach Springs and go home from there.
Lilo's (pronounced Leelo's) is, as
the name suggests, on the west side of town. The interior is knotty pine with
jello molds and animals on the walls. A large elk head dominates the back of
the room. There are pictures of celebrities over the entrance to the Route 66
gift shop.
Lunch was a little pricier than I remembered it from past
visits. Burgers and sandwiches were in the $6.50 to $8.00 range. They were
available with either fries, coleslaw or potato salad.
After we ordered, our drinks came pretty quickly. They were busy with the
lunch/tourist crowd so the food took somewhat longer - maybe 20 minutes or so.
There are funny books on the table so you have something to read while you are
waiting. We didn't need them as the conversation was witty and interesting.
When the food arrived I heard the plaintive cry, "My
BLT is more L and T than B. I found the patty on my patty melt to be a little
smaller than I'd like it to be. On the other hand, the food was tasty and well
prepared. The onions on my patty melt were grilled to perfection.
All in all, this was a fine dining experience and I'll rev Lilo's up to 4 grand on the old Route 66 Riders tach. As always redline is 5.
